Mark Schmechel, Lead Pastor

Mark

About Mark:

Married to my incredible wife Becky for 17 years. Proud Dad to Sami, Emily, and Luke. After being a follower of Jesus for many years, I still can’t wrap my head around God’s love, grace, and how much people matter to Him! Grateful to be a part of an awesome church like Journey.

Fun Facts about Mark:

Favorite book or movie:
Growing up, I’d say it was the Rocky movies…especially Rocky 3 or 4. More recently, I’ve been a fan of the new faith based films that have been released from Pure Flix, such as “God’s Not Dead.” I think it’s a refreshing light in the dark entertainment world we live in.

What do you do in your spare time?
Mostly spend time with my family, read books, go for walks, maybe catch a good basketball game on tv. Learning to unplug from technology so I can engage more fully.

What is something most people don’t know about you?
I enjoy going to the Rocky Mountain National Park in Estes Park, CO to go hiking. There’s nothing like the views, the exercise, and the fresh mountain air. I only have two problems: 1). Getting there more often. 2). Doing the peak climbs like I used to!

What is your favorite quote?
“Preach the Gospel at all times. If necessary, use words.” -St. Augustine

What have you always wanted to do that you haven’t done yet?
Surfing, going on a cruise to Alaska, travel to Israel, sit court side at a Milwaukee Bucks game or NCAA Final Four game.

Katie Daley, Children’s Director

Katie Daley

About Katie:

I am the proud wife of Tim and mother of Max. As a new mother, I love watching my son discover new things. (As I wrote that, Max just climbed up onto the couch for the first time.) I have always known that I needed to be working with children in one way or another. I have taught dance, managed and lead children’s ministries, led vacation Bible camps, put on children’s special events, and I run an in-home daycare. I love watching all the “ah-ha” moments children have when they are learning. After growing up in Green Bay, I got my bachelor’s from Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee before working in a children’s ministry at a church in Appleton. I can’t wait to help Journey’s children grow their relationships with God while providing a solid Biblical education that will prepare them for the “real world.”

Fun Facts about Katie:

Favorite book or movie?
Beauty and the Beast is my favorite movie. I grew up in the nineties, the best decade of Disney movies. However, I’m also a sucker for romantic comedies like You’ve Got Mail and Leap Year.

What do you do in your spare time?
I love to bike the Fox River trail with my family, eat ice cream, and “try” to garden.

What is something most people don’t know about you?
I binge eat salt and vinegar chips. 

What is your favorite quote?
“The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things.” -Ronald Reagan

What have you always wanted to do that you haven’t done yet?
I would love to go on an Alaskan cruise, try wedding planning, and spend at least a month in Europe.

What is something most people don’t know about you?
When I was in kindergarten, my bus driver forgot to drop me off after school. When we got to my house the bus driver just drove right on past and never stopped to let me off. As a shy and quiet 5 year old I was too scared to say anything so I just remained sitting in my seat. As they were nearing the end of the route the driver asked the last child on the bus to walk through the aisle to check for any forgotten possessions and was surprised to find me still quietly sitting in my seat waiting to go home!
